Devon holidays are not complete until you’ve spent a day (or two) on one of the many breathtaking beaches. As well as Dawlish, some of the best include Branscombe Beach, Coryton Cove and Shaldon. The question is, what do you and your family prefer? Would you like to swim, surf or paddle? Would you like a shingle beach to skim stones, or soft sand for building sandcastles? Or maybe you prefer to explore the rock pools or find a lookout point to spot dolphins (if you’re lucky!) The good news is that Devon offers all these choices.
Unspoilt Devon countryside
The south-west has some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country. From stretching coastal scenes to lush forests and wild moorland, the variety is surprising. Nearby Haldon forest is a great destination for walking and cycling, and Dawlish Warren itself is home to a 500-acre nature reserve which is perfect for bird-watching and discovering rare plants and local wildlife.
Devon offers a wide choice of days out for all the family. Paignton Zoo has an exceptional range of animals as well as play activities to keep the children entertained. Living Coasts at Torquay offers the chance of a close encounter with penguins, seals and other marine life. Then for an activity-based day, take your pick from Pennywell Farm, Devon’s Crealy and Woodlands Family Theme Park – they’re all just a drive away from your Welcome Family base.
