Tips for travelling with a Baby!

The idea of taking a few days break with your baby at first seems like a lovely idea….A few days out of routine (unfortunately not from the night feeds though!) and your little ones first holiday! Until you think of all the essentials those tiny people come along with. You’ll feel like you need to pack everything but the kitchen sink!

Well we have a few tips/hints on how to make things a lot easier. Plus some great suggestions on where to visit on your getaway to Devon!

Making your baby comfortable on the car journey

A vest and sleepsuit may be more comfortable for your baby than trousers or tights and tops as they don’t bunch up! It’s also much easier to put on and take off.

If you’re travelling during the summer months it worth having a hand held battery operated fan. It’ll help to keep your baby cool in a stuffy place or car, and babies love the novelty of a light breeze.

Allow extra travelling time so you can stop and take a break every couple of hours, even if it’s just for a few minutes to change a nappy, they’ll enjoy a stretch. It’s also a good idea to keep checking that your baby isn’t too hot or too cold, if they are in their car seat for long periods of time they may get quite sweaty.

Extras you may want to bring on your holiday with baby

The great thing with taking a break in the UK is no LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE to worry about! If you want to pack everything……you can.  Plus with our spacious self-catering accommodation you’ve plenty of room for everything.

So here are a few things that you may want to think about adding to your packing list…

  • Your walking boots ……some beautiful country side walks in and around the area.
  • Picnic blanket – After a lovely stroll, be it at the beach or country side with those beautiful views. It’s a great time to stop have a picnic and let your baby enjoy the fresh air on the blanket.
  • Pop up sun tent! Perfect if you fancy a day at the beach and your little one can still get their daily nap in peace.
  • It’s worth buying a new toy and even wrapping it up. They’ll love unwrapping it and exploring their new toy (Keep them quiet for at least 20mins!).
  • Swim nappies… for maybe their first paddle in the sea!

With the choice of 6 different supermarkets within a 10 mile radius of Welcome Family Holiday Park,  you are in easy reach of those essential baby bits!  So don’t worry if you’ve forgotten anything, you’ll be able to buy them while you’re here.

Top Destinations to visit with babies in South Devon

We have beautiful countryside walks, pebble and sandy beaches. Surrounded by some great attractions, which are perfect for your tots to enjoy and those young at heart!  Here we list just a few…

Pennywell Farm is perfect for little animal lovers – they will be excited to experience the Pennywell magic at the multi-award winning farm activity park – the biggest in the South West! So, as you can imagine, there is lots to see and do for the whole family.

Lovely for under fives as they can get up close and personal with all the wonderfully cute farm animals. For babies they have the indoor barn area with a bouncy and some soft play areas which are great for your little one to have a stretch and roll around after being in the pushchair. Don’t forget to see the adorable miniature piglets! More information available here.

Paignton Zoo is a must! Although your little one may not have a very long attention span, this one is great for the adults too! Get close to over 2000 creatures at one of the South West’s most exciting visitor attractions.

See them all – giraffes, lions, gorillas, cheetahs and thrilling crocodiles, plus cheeky meerkats, colourful snakes and amazing monkeys. There are also indoor play areas, the Jungle Express train and, uniquely, six habitats that mimic the animals’ natural environment.

You can make a full day of it and even take a picnic to fuel your exploration of Paignton Zoo’s big wild world! If you pop into reception you can collect some money off vouchers. More information is available here.

Bearfeet is the perfect place to chill on a rainy day. It has again been awarded ‘The best indoor play centre in Devon’. The little one will love playing with all the different climbing frames and in the ball pool. You can enjoy a hot cuppa while they are busy exploring a new brightly coloured soft play area.

The Paint Hub  –  I know it doesn’t sound like the ideal place to take a baby but here you can capture your loved ones hand print forever!

Create a unique gift or keepsake by adding a painted hand or foot print to a mug, plate or even a Christmas decoration.  Its beautiful keepsake idea!  Plus, at this pottery painting studio in Dawlish Warren, the whole family can get creative and paint their own masterpiece.
