Six of the Best Places to Eat and Drink with Your Pet

Dog-friendly Devon

If you dote on your dog and want to enjoy meals out during your Devon holiday, rest assured that there are plenty of eateries here where pets are just as welcome as their owners.

Here’s our pick of Devon’s dog-friendly pubs, cafés and restaurants, all of which are within easy reach of our holiday park, which offers fantastic pet-friendly accommodation, including lodges, bungalows and static caravans.

1. The Hound of the Baskervilles, Ashburton

On the edge of Devon’s wild and wonderful Dartmoor National Park, you’ll discover an innovative pub and restaurant that prides itself on ‘welcoming all types of Hounds’. The Hound of the Baskervilles celebrates the famous Sherlock Holmes story of the same name (much of which takes place on Dartmoor) with themed décor and exhibits. You might even find your canine companion making friends with the life-sized model hounds on display! The menu is ambitious yet affordable, with hearty Baskerville Burgers among the specialities.

2. The Singing Kettle, Torquay

If your Devon cream tea wouldn’t be complete without the company of your pet pooch, don’t miss The Singing Kettle, a dog-friendly tearoom that’s minutes away from the equally dog-friendly Livermead Beach. Pets are given treats, while their owners can indulge their sweet tooth with homemade scones and cakes. What’s more, whether you decide to sit inside this bright and airy tourist hub or go out onto the terrace, you’ll enjoy exhilarating sea views. It’s no wonder The Singing Kettle has earned multiple TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence.

3. Beth’s Bistro, Dartmouth

For a restaurant that’s as chic as its surroundings, try Beth’s Bistro in the picturesque harbour town of Dartmouth. The incredibly fresh, filling dishes are all made with Devon produce. Beth’s Bistro’s crabmeat sandwiches are particularly popular, and another favourite is the smoked kippers, sourced from nearby Salcombe. While you’re treating your taste buds to a delicious meal, your dog may be lucky enough to receive a complimentary sausage!

4. The Guardhouse, Brixham

Few eateries have scenery as spectacular as clifftop café The Guardhouse in Berry Head Nature Reserve, a popular Devon dog walking spot. But it’s not just the landscape that’s impressive: the café is the winner of Visit Devon Gold Awards, offers outstanding seasonal food, and warmly welcomes pets and their owners. You’ll receive a generous helping of history with your meal, as The Guardhouse was originally used by Napoleonic-era soldiers tasked with protecting the headland. If you visit on a chilly day, your dog will undoubtedly appreciate the underfloor heating, while you warm up with the signature hot chocolate!

5. Finley Browns, Teignmouth

After a breathtaking coastal walk with your dog in Teignmouth, be sure to stop off at the distinctive café called Finley Browns. Its owners can be relied on to make a fuss of your four-legged friend (they have a couple of sweet dogs themselves). The attention to detail that goes into decorating the homemade cakes, in particular, makes Finley Browns a fantastic choice of venue when celebrating a special occasion. Your pet is bound to enjoy a treat or two as well!

6. The Boat House, Dawlish Warren

Places to eat and drink don’t come much cosier or more dog friendly than The Boat House, a beachside tavern that’s just a stone’s throw from our Dawlish Warren holiday park. Soak up the laid-back atmosphere as you enjoy sofas, balconies and a beer garden. If you can tear your eyes away from the fabulous landscape, take a look at the mouth-watering menu. Your dog will surely be just as interested as you are in the ‘Treasures from the Grill’ dishes, which include West Country rump steak! The Boat House is ideal for relaxing with your canine chum during your Devon holiday.
