Dawlish Warren Beach & Nature Reserve

Just a few minutes’ level walk away from the holiday park, you’ll find the superb Dawlish Warren beach. Regularly selected as one of the top resorts in the UK, this huge beach has achieved prestigious Blue Flag status for the 24th year running (2022).

Marine Conservation Society recommended

Dawlish Warren offers more than just a traditional bucket-and-spade beach – it also boasts an internationally protected National Nature Reserve conserving an array of different habitats, including salt marshes, fresh water ponds, wet meadows and woodland, which serve as a haven for a great variety of wildlife.

From the mouth of the Exe Estuary to the cascading Dawlish Brook

Situated on the South West coastal path, the beach stretches from the Exe Estuary to the traditional seaside town of Dawlish, so you can enjoy an amble or cycle ride along the marked trails, feel soft sand underfoot, stroll along the *sea wall and admire the famous Dawlish black swans all in one day, if you have the energy! Or you can spend a lazy day day paddling in the sea, building sand castles and eating ice cream in the sun.

Dawlish Warren beach has a large grassed play area where you can enjoy a picnic and there are sand dunes behind the beach where you can shelter from coastal winds. There’s also plenty of children’s amusements, shops, pubs and cafes, all safely away from the road.

    On Your Visit
    • Be sure to visit the Nature Reserve Visitor Centre where you can learn all about the varied flora and fauna of the area.
    • The legendary black swans in Dawlish town centre are a visitor focal point; in the evenings, Dawlish Lawn and its gently babbling brook are lit by the soft glow of fairy lights – a magical time to visit.
    • There is a Dawlish Museum which includes the room display The story of Dawlish Warren, which looks at ‘the fascinating story of how this tiny hamlet with its tavern in the sand dunes, evolved into the major tourist destination it is today’. It also tells the story of the 2014 storm that severely damaged the railway line.
    • *If you do decide to walk the sea wall and you’re not sure if the tide is going to be high, click here to check the tide time beforehand if you don’t want to risk wet feet.
