If you have ever visited our holiday parks in South Devon before, you’ll know how much we love our shows. You might have also noticed how much our audience love our shows. We are proud to have cultivated such a great reputation for the quality and production value of our performances. The team here at Welcome Family work hard to make every showtime energetic, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. You can also check out our entertainment programme before you visit, choosing the things you want to see beforehand – but everything is suitable for all ages. We take special care to add a little something in there for the adults, too.
We take our inspiration from everything – including feedback from our visitors. However, one of the things that have a huge impact on our shows is the most loved family west end shows. Although we might not have their stage size, we strive to provide the same value and emulate the “west end” style!
Wicked
First making it to the London stage in 2006, this firm favourite, family west end show is based on the books of the Wizard of Oz. We love Wicked because it offers an alternative look at the well-loved family movie that we all know so well! It’s also been listed as one of the best theatre performances ever because of the amazing score. The songs are powerful and will stick with you for a long time to come!
The Lion King
This award-winning production was adapted for the stage and continues to amaze at London’s Lyceum Theatre! It’s absolutely magical to experience and the animal characters connect with the audience wonderfully. This big-budget production has broken a lot of records, but it’s one of our most loved family west end shows because of the quality and dedication to every corner of the stage. The animal costumes are utterly outstanding and the interaction with the audience builds a wonderful atmosphere – something we love to mimic in our own shows – just on a different, and slightly smaller, stage.
Matilda
Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved story, Matilda tells the tale of a child genius, her strange family and the amazing Miss Honey. For the stage, this classic story was reinvigorated with the musical styles of Tim Minchin, as well as other fantastic creators in the industry. This inspiring production has won a host of awards, and is just a heart-warming experience!
Mamma Mia
Perhaps most well-known for the amazing soundtrack, this family west end show might be a little more suited to a more mature audience, but it’s still absolutely fabulous. Our favourite thing about this production is how involved everyone gets – singing, dancing and laughing along!
Mary Poppins
Everyone’s favourite Nanny has been ruling family west end shows for years! With songs, dance and a fantastic storyline, it’s no wonder that this has been running for as long as it has. We love that it brings out the joy and inner child in everyone – adults included – plus it has great lessons built right in! Going on an adventure with Mary Poppins excites the imagination and inspires all.
