Guide to North Devon

One of the great things about holidaying in Devon is you are never far from a great day out. Although there is loads to do in South and Mid Devon, North Devon also has loads of things to see and do and is well worth the hour drive to see the north coast. Below are just a few of the must do things in North Devon.

A day out in North Devon for families

The BIG Sheep is the best day out baaaa none in North Devon! With an all-weather fun guarantee you are assured a great day out even if the Great British weather lets you down. Animal lovers will rejoice by getting up close and personal in the animal barn with sheep, goats, rabbits, puppies, and even alpacas! The schedule of live shows through the main season will have you laughing off your seat and you’ll probably learn something too – perfect for that pub quiz knowledge! Thrill seekers are also well catered for with Devon’s largest rollercoaster with its spins, drops and loops, while the Twister lets you soar through the sky like you’re flying. Little ones will love the selection of rides for them too! The Piggy Pull-a-Long and Vintage Carousel are a great way to give a little bit of independence as these rides are for under 7s only while parents watch nearby.

Tip: Pre-book online for a 20% discount on general admission prices.

The BIG Sheep is open from Easter until October half term daily and weekends and school holidays out of season.

A day out in North Devon for Dinosaur Lovers

All ages will fall in love with the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. Whether you’re 5 and dinosaur wallpaper adorns your bedroom, or 45 and Jurassic Park is still your favourite movie – this park with its animatronic dinosaurs will delight! It’s not just dinosaurs though. The park is also home to a huge array of exotic animals including Lions, Baboons, Penguins and Meerkats to name just a few! Their indoor play area will keep little tots entertained while parents enjoy a well-earned refreshment break over a cup of coffee. In the basement you’ll find the Tomb of the Pharaoh’s where you can learn more about this fascinating era! For an extra £1 you can experience a train ride and earthquake, on the Dino Express…be warned you may get wet!

Tip: Book an experience day for even more up-close animal action!

A day out in North Devon for Island Hoppers

Lundy Island has to be seen to be believed. Leaving from either Bideford or Ilfracombe throughout the week a day trip to Lundy is a great way to spend a few hours. While away your time in the old pub, walk the hills and admire the view. With so much unspoilt countryside (no roads or cars on Lundy!) it’s a great way to see what old Britain might have looked like! The animals on Lundy are also unique so make sure you spend some time not only admiring the buildings but also the animals in their natural habitats too!

Tip: If able to stay overnight, Lundy is also a fantastic spot for star gazers with a clear sky from no street lights.

A day out in North Devon for Adventure Seekers

Adventure seekers should look no further than The Ultimate Adventure Centre. With a new high ropes course for 2018 and now with 2 courses there’s no excuse not to have a go! Don your hard hat and harness and take to the ropes! If water sports is more your thing then why not combine dry land and wet in their Ultimate Assault, styled on the hit TV show Ultimate Wipeout, complete with big balls! Challenge yourself to complete the course in a set time, or just compete against your family to see who can finish quickest! As well as this there is also climbing, mountain boarding, disc golf, kayaking, surfing, coasteering and plenty of other activities on offer as well!

Tip: You can combine The BIG Sheep and Ultimate Adventure Centre to receive a discount on activities at the centre.
